The Apprentice’s Nick Hewer To Visit Isle of Man

by isleofman.com 18th May 2011
The Apprentice’s Nick Hewer is to visit the Isle of Man as a guest of Junior Achievement Isle of Man this November. The former public relations consultant turned TV personality will be addressing more than 250 secondary school students at the Palace cinema during the day on November 23, an event being sponsored by Manx Telecom that will support students participating in the Junior Achievement company programme, an entrepreneurial programme giving students the experience of setting up and running their own business over the course of an academic year. He will also be guest speaker at a dinner that evening and at a lunch the following day, both at the Palace Hotel, to help raise funds for the charity when he will take audiences behind the scenes of The Apprentice, before holding extended question and answer sessions. Junior Achievement Isle of Man is a Manx-registered charity that with the help of volunteers goes into schools to teach young people financial literacy, business and entrepreneurial skills. Chief executive Sue Cook said: ‘Getting Nick to come to the Isle of Man is a real coup for us. Anyone who’s watched The Apprentice will know Nick as Alan Sugar's right-hand man. His facial expressions, borne of wonderfully dry humour and a lifetime's business experience, tell you exactly what he thinks of the contestants.’ Manx Telecom CEO Mike Dee said: ‘I’m sure Nick will pass on many useful tips to Junior Achievement participants and give all of those attending an interesting insight into his experiences on The Apprentice. Manx Telecom is pleased to sponsor his visit and to support the good work of Junior Achievement which does so much to encourage the Island’s young entrepreneurs.’ Sue continued: ‘Nick embodies everything that Junior Achievement stands for. It has never been more important to equip our young people with skills for the future and that is exactly what Junior Achievement programmes do.’ This academic year Junior Achievement will run 150 classes, in 18 schools, reaching more than 4,000 young people. Each year Junior Achievement needs to raise ?300,000 to deliver its programme at no cost to the schools. Tables for dinner on November 23 are sold out and only a few tables remain for the lunchtime event on November 24. Anyone interested in attending should contact Sue on 666266 or e-mail suecook@jaiom.im. www.jaiom.im ENDS
