The organisers of last weekend’s weather-hit Fun Day in the south of the Island are hoping it’s third time lucky when they attempt to stage the event on Sunday 10th July.
The Southern Multi-Agency Team event was due to take place at Ronaldsway Sports and Social Club from noon to 4pm on Sunday and would have offered young people the chance to try out new hobbies and pastimes. More than 50 different stands were signed up to take part.
But torrential rain overnight and on the morning of the event meant organisers were left with no alternative but to postpone it as the field was waterlogged.
Karen Davies, chairman of the Southern MAT, and her team set about contacting all participants by phone and rang radio stations to alert anyone attending that the event was off.
Karen said: ‘The team was bitterly disappointed to have to cancel again as the day was all set to be huge. We apologise to anyone who was inconvenienced and hope that they will support us by attending on 10th July.’
It was doubly disappointing as the event was originally due to be held last October but was called off for the same reason.
‘Here’s hoping the event in July will be even bigger and better and that we can interest even more organisations to coming along and encourage the young people of the south to engage in new activities,’ said Karen.
The Southern MAT is in the process of contacting everyone that was due to attend last Sunday. Anyone else interested in taking part in the rearranged Fun Day should contact Karen on 429693.
