An Event It Would Be a Crime To Miss

by isleofman.com 24th May 2011
Are you a budding Sherlock Holmes or a closet Miss Marple? If you are you will not want to miss the opportunity to solve the case of ‘Who Killed George Hargrave?’ The Henry Bloom Noble Library is inviting amateur sleuths to demonstrate their powers of detection at a Victorian murder mystery evening on Saturday June 25 in the Community Room at Noble’s Park Pavilion at 7.30pm. The mystery has been written by award-winning crime novelist and host for the evening Martin Edwards. Local actors will play the suspects and the audience will listen to their testimonies before deciding the identity of the murderer, the means and the motive. While solutions are being judged Mr Edwards will take part in a question-and-answer session with Bob Harrison from Manx Radio. ‘The event has been staged very successfully in venues across the UK and I’m absolutely delighted to have been asked to bring it to the Isle of Man,’ said Mr Edwards who, in addition to writing critically acclaimed crime fiction, is the author of a number of non-fiction books, including a study of homicide investigation and is a partner in a UK law firm. Borough librarian Jan Macartney said: ‘Martin’s not only the critically acclaimed author of the Lake District Mysteries and the Harry Devlin Mysteries, set in Merseyside, but also a very entertaining speaker, so I’m sure we’ll be in for a great evening.’ There’s no need to kill for a ticket for ‘Who Killed George Hargrave?’ – just pay ?5 per person. Tickets are available in advance from The Henry Bloom Noble Library, Victoria Street, Douglas and the Lexicon Bookshop in Strand Street. Free wine and light snacks are included and there will be prizes for the winners. Martin Edwards will also be signing copies of his books which will be available to buy on the evening. ENDS
