Family Fun Weekend on Isle of Man Railways on 6-7 August

by isleofman.com 25th May 2011
Family Fun Days on the Island’s steam railway will be held over the weekend 6-7 August. However, for the first time in 10 years, the railways that were the inspiration for the Thomas the Tank Engine books will not have a Thomas and Friends theme owing to very significant licence fee increases. Hon David Cretney MHK, Minister for Community, Culture and Leisure, commented: ‘Rather than cancel the event and disappoint a large number of children, Isle of Man Railways will continue with plans for the Family Fun Days, simply re-branded to avoid incurring licensing costs that cannot be justified for the small event we host. ‘Activities will be centred on Douglas steam railway station with new additions and train rides. The Isle of Man Thomas weekend attracted around 700 visitors over the two days and we are hopeful the Family Fun Days in August will be on a par.’ Details of the Family Fun Days (6-7 August) at Douglas Station will be promoted nearer the time. It is one event in a busy timetable of special events to be hosted by the Heritage Railways this season. More details available at www.iombusandrail.info/noticeboard ENDS
