Another Huge Entry For Royal London 360 Youth Cycling League

by isleofman.com 26th May 2011
A total of 338 riders contested round seven of the Royal London 360 children's cycling league, staged at the NSC last Tuesday night in surprisingly good conditions. For the second week running Jemma Quayle took the honours in the novices class. Chester Bell held off Rebecca Walmsley and Peter Lloyd for the runners-up spot, with Matthew Gledhill a safe fifth in front of Lisa Martin and Archie Dunn, who were sixth and seventh respectively. Kate Morris pipped Sophie Keen and Rubi Skillen in the bunch sprint for eighth. In the born 2006 and later age group Zachary Dowson attacked from the gun and stayed clear to the finish. Jack Keenan out-sprinted Ivan Sorby and Cian Jackson for second, while David Sargent got the verdict over Drystan Sewell and Corey Peters in the battle for fifth. Hollie Palmer was the first girl in 17th place. Niall Colquitt beat Harry Kneen to the line to notch up his third win in the born 2005 event. Mairi Harrison claimed the final place on the podium and Nathan Cannell kept the main bunch at bay for fourth. Chloe Comaish came from behind to win the dash for fifth ahead of Charlie Cowin, Oliver Tobin, Luke Saunders, Jacob O'Boyle and Frank Kinnish, who rounded off the top ten. Dillon Dowson got the better of the previously unbeaten Zac Walker to record his maiden win in the born 2004 category. Ralf Holden led Joshua Dudley home for third and Cameron Dudley was the strongest in the bunch gallop for fifth. Billy Kennedy completed the top six and Mia Worthington grabbed the girls' prize in eleventh spot. A breakaway group of four riders contested the finish of the born 2003 race, with Jake Wilson outgunning Jack Christian, Thomas Skillicorn and Jonty Bregazzi for the win. Matthew Black was a solid fifth and Jamie Gelling maintained station to claim sixth in front of pursuers Tyler Hannay, Darcy Cain and Ryan Quirk. Relative newcomer Freddie Ralston was a good thirteenth. Aaron Lund rode away from fellow frontrunners James Harrison. Blae Cain and Corrin Leeming to bag maximum points for a sixth time in the born 2002 class. Nathanael Tyson edged ahead Jack Whitelegg for fifth and Shellan Leeming held off the fast closing trio of Sam Corlett, Joshua Mills and Frederick Nabor for seventh. Peel's Tosh Teare was too fast for Juan Kneen, Max Walker and Adam Scarffe in the sprint that decided the outcome of the born 2001 three lapper. Emma Draper was fifth and Cullen Gell fought off a strong challenge from Chloe Crellin for sixth. In the born 2000 & earlier grouping Matthew Draper cruised to another comfortable solo victory ahead of Adam Kelly, who won the ten-strong bunch sprint for second place. Sam Batey, Ben Christian, Sam Mills and leading girl Tara Ferguson filled the remaining places on the top six leader board. A last lap attack gave Charlie Gibson the victory in the under 10 racing bikes. Max Walker and Conor Gelling were second and third, with Jake Wilson the top under 8 rider in tenth spot and Emily Bridson the best girl in eleventh place. In the under 12's William Draper had the advantage on Thomas Bostock, Callum Clague, Conor Davies and Eleanor Davies in the final gallop. Daniel Scarffe made every effort to catch the leading group but in the end had to settle for a well earned sixth. In the under 16's event the action was fast and furious from start to finish. At two thirds distance Jake Kelly, Jamie Dudley and Joshua Knights got away and powered their way to the finish where Kelly took the sprint. Leon Mazzone was a good fourth and Anna Christian the top girl in 14th spot. * Don't forget that there is no racing at the NSC this Tuesday (May 31st) due to the TT practices. The league resumes on the Tuesday of TT week (June 7th). ROYAL LONDON 360 YOUTH LEAGUE RESULTS - ROUND 7 - TUESDAY, 24th MAY 2011 NOVICES 1. Jemma Quayle - 1st Girl 2. Chester Bell 3.
