Mike Clancy, Deputy General Secretary of Prospect is due to visit the island on Thursday, 2 June 2011, to brief members of his union on pensions.
The visit will focus around a briefing to members on the Hutton Review of Pensions in the UK, but will also include meetings with key groups of workers across the public sector.
Clancy has been Deputy General Secretary of Prospect since 2004, and had overall responsibility for the island since that time. His tenure has seen a continued growth in membership on the island, and an increased resource commitment to the island.
Latest developments have seen the island move to establish a retired members group, and expand its membership amongst non civil service areas, particularly in manual worker occupations and the private sector.
Speaking of his visit, Clancy said:
“Our members on the island, whether in the public or private sector, are facing tough challenges ahead. We will continue to provide robust support from the UK to ensure they can meet those challenges. My visit is to provide reassurance that this will continue.
I have come to know and understand the island’s unique and distinct issues and it is important that I continue to develop that. I am looking forward to hearing from members how they feel at the present time, and also providing them with more information on what we are doing as a union to support them through these difficult times.”
