Friends Exhibition At Garretts Gallery

by isleofman.com 1st June 2011
The first “Friends of Garretts Gallery” exhibition will be held at Garretts Gallery in Braddan during the month of June. The opening hours are Tues/Wed/Sat – 10am – 6pm. Proprietor, local Artist, Karl Garrett said, “This is the first “Friends” exhibition that we have organised and we intend to make it a regular event. We are really excited by the opportunity to make Garretts Gallery THE venue for fresh, new talent and aspiring Artists on the Island. The Isle of Man is such a multi-cultural, diverse and inspirational place to live and work – the art on display at this exhibition will reflect that and emphasise the wealth of artistic talent on the Island.” Mindful of the shortage of suitable exhibition space on the Island, Karl hopes that regular “Friends” exhibitions will encourage and provide an additional venue for aspiring Artists to display their work. Many of the Island’s established Artists are already well known and their artwork is regularly displayed and purchased, however, there are many other Artists whose talent has yet to be seen in public and Karl hopes that “Friends of Garretts Gallery” exhibitions will be able to provide an opportunity for those Artists. The featured artists during the month of June are: Hebe Atzori: BTEC Foundation Art & Design Student, Isle of Man College. She hopes to go to University and continue her interest in art: although undecided as to the course, it will be something that involves a lot of paint and mess! Gary Bennett: Mature HND Fine Art Student, Isle of Man College. Inspired by studying other Artists to create 2D images that portray power and atmosphere and provoke a memory for a viewer – perhaps happy memories of a time past. John Carney: BTEC Foundation Art & Design Student, Isle of Man College. Work is a translation of religious metaphors into psychoanalytical territory, exploring what it is that possesses a person to find religion or abandon it. Christine Colvin: Mainly works in oils but able to adapt to other mediums and paints a variety of art from Manx scenes to abstract and will attempt most subjects. Liz Courtie: Mature HND Fine Art Student, Isle of Man College. Her photography captures the moment as each and every shot is very special. Jenni Murray: Full time mum who enjoys painting in her spare time. In the future, she hopes to become a professional artist and exhibit Island-wide. Hazel Walsh: Current Artist in Residence at the Sayle where she is completing a photographic project entitled, “Mann Abandoned”. Garretts Gallery is located at Unit 11, Kirby Farm Industrial Estate, Vicarage Road, Braddan – www.garrettsgallery.webs.com – and is open Tues/Wed/Saturday – 10am – 6pm and other times by appointment by ringing Karl on 456854.
