The Tynwald Library exhibition space is featuring a display showcasing the Manx community’s support of Oxfam in the developing world.
The exhibition, which began on Monday 30 May and will run for four weeks, is promoting the global work of Oxfam, with particular focus on projects that have benefited from support from the Isle of Man. These include helping more than 40,000 families in India survive and recover from the floods of 2008; a healthcare and sanitation programme in the Philippines; creating children’s centres and training care-givers in Malawi to combat HIV and AIDS; providing access to clean water in Zambia through the construction of boreholes and, in Liberia, training teachers and building libraries to give children better life chances.
The exhibition also provides Oxfam information packs and displays examples of Traidcraft products available for purchase from the Oxfam shop at 10 Castle Street, Douglas, open Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm.
The Tynwald Library exhibition space provides schools, youth, community and sporting organisations as well as private individuals and commercial enterprises with a secure, easily managed area in which to mount Manx-themed displays. There is no rental charge, only a small commission fee for sales by commercial operators.
The space is adjacent to the gift shop which carries a selection of gifts and souvenirs, many unique to Tynwald, along with a range of Manx-themed items.
The exhibition space and gift shop are located in the Tynwald Library on the ground floor of the Legislative Buildings in Finch Road and open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
Free tours of Tynwald, lasting about an hour, are offered on Mondays at 2pm and Fridays at 10am weekly, excluding public holidays. Groups may request pre-booked tours at other times, including evenings and weekends.
