The closure of the TT course for racing is expected to continue into the late afternoon and possibly early evening. It is therefore likely that traffic volumes in Douglas town centre and the arterial routes out of the town will be extremely high during the late afternoon rush hour period. Police officers will be deployed at strategic locations in order to assist in traffic management, but the sheer number of vehicles expected on the roads means that delays will be inevitable.
At this time it cannot be confirmed whether or not crossing points will be in operation during the busy period. Further information will be provided as the situation changes.
Head of the Douglas Neighbourhood Policing Team, Inspector Phil Shimmin gives this advice to motorists: “The police will do everything possible to ease the situation for motorists, but people also have to accept that there will inevitably be delays due to the high volumes of traffic and limited routes out of Douglas. I will reiterate the advice given earlier in the week, which is to avoid the traditional rush hour and either leave work earlier or later than usual if possible. Car sharing or using public transport will also reduce the number of vehicles on the roads. Regular updates will also be provided using Facebook and Twitter. Information about road closures can be obtained by phoning the dedicated number which is 685888”
