by isleofman.com 8th June 2011
TREASURY Minister Anne Craine MHK has welcomed figures showing the rate of unemployment in the Isle of Man has fallen to its lowest level so far this year. The number of people registered unemployed decreased by 37 to 806 in May, according to the latest job market statistics issued by the Economic Affairs Division of Treasury. A total of 610 vacancies were notified to the Job Centre during the month, with 312 positions still vacant and held on file at the end of May. Minister Craine said: ‘I am encouraged to see that unemployment has fallen by 85 over the last two months, taking the rate to below 2% for the first time during 2011. ‘We are continuing to see about a quarter of those registered unemployed at the start of a month are finding employment by the end of the month. Also, we are not seeing any increase in the number of people unemployed for more than a year.’ Ends
