It’s time to sign up for the Family Library’s Summer Reading Scheme.
It’s the fifth year that the Department of Education and Children’s library has created its own reading scheme to keep young members entertained through the school summer holidays.
Members have until Saturday 25th June to register for the scheme, which will be launched a week later.
Mary Cousins, Librarian-in-Charge, said: ‘The theme is always a closely guarded secret until the launch and this keeps members and parents guessing for the few weeks of registration.’
Mary explained: ‘Members read a minimum of five books and take part in a game that lasts all summer long – with puzzles and crafts. This year the theme is an adventure that will keep young people busy all summer with fun activities.’
Children who complete the challenge to read five books will receive a certificate and those who complete the game will receive a special treat and could possibly win a fantastic prize, too, said Mary.
The Summer Reading Scheme is for members aged five and over but under-fives can enjoy fun and activities via the library’s Junior Reading Club – one of many activities offered at the library in Noble’s Hall, Westmoreland Road.
If you don’t belong to the Family Library, it’s not too late to join and take part in the Summer Reading Scheme. Membership costs just ?2 a year for children, who can borrow up to six books, three CDs and one DVD at a time. Their parents can join, too, for ?5 a year, and have the same borrowing entitlement. The library is open from Tuesday to Friday, including during the school summer holidays. For more information, visit http://www.familylibrary.co.uk/Home.html
