Question Time at Ballakermeen High School

by isleofman.com 15th June 2011
Young people on the island are being encouraged by the government to vote in the forthcoming Keys elections, and Ballakermeen High School is giving sixth form students two opportunities to engage with politics through question and answer forums. The first session, based on the format of the BBC’s ‘Question Time’, will take place on July 8th. On the panel are: Hon. Eddie Teare, Minister for Education and Children; Hon. John Shimmin, Minister for Environment, Food and Agriculture; Bill Malarkey MHK, Department Member for Home Affairs and Social Care; Debbie Harris Director, Paragon (HR & Recruitment) Consultants, and Rory O’Shea, Head Boy, Ballakermeen High School. They will answer questions posed by sixth formers. This event will be held in the Ballakermeen Sixth Form Lecture Theatre and will be chaired by Manx Radio’s Roger Watterson. The session will be recorded for Manx Radio's ‘Talking Heads’ programme. There will be another question and answer session in September, in the immediate run up to voting, where prospective MHKs will be grilled by 16 and 17 year old school students from the school anxious to elicit some pre-election promises!/ ends Further information: Paul Kane Tel 648714 e-mail p.kane@bhs.sch.im ENDS
