Do you have photographs of postal services in Ramsey in times gone by, the old Courthouse building and any other interesting post office related material such as newspaper clippings etc? If so, Isle of Man Post Office wants to hear from you.
At the end of July, Ramsey Post Office will be relocating from its existing premise in Court Row to the old Courthouse building in Parliament Street and for its new home, it is hoped there will be a fascinating display of photographs of „old? Ramsey.
Isle of Man Post Office is appealing to anyone who has suitable photographs and postal memorabilia to come along to an open afternoon on Wednesday 29th June between 4-7pm in Ramsey Town Hall, Parliament Square, Ramsey. At the event, representatives from Isle of Man Post Office will be able to scan your photographs while you enjoy light refreshments and reminisce with other attendees about your memories of the town.
Lucy Webster-Thompson, PR & Communications Manager, Isle of Man Post Office said: “We hope this will be a great community event where we will be able to gather copies of a wide selection of photographs, clippings etc while being an opportunity to reminisce about how the town used to be. I encourage everyone to dig out any images/material in keeping with our display theme - I?m sure there are some cracking photos out there which will bring to life what role the post office played in the town many years ago.”
Isle of Man Post Office is looking forward to the move of its Ramsey Post Office to the prestigious Courthouse building which has lay in the heart of the town for many years. The area is also set to become the focal point of a newly revitalised Ramsey as part of the town?s regeneration scheme.
As a result, Isle of Man Post Office has teamed up with the Ramsey Regeneration Committee for the community event so residents will be able to view the regeneration plans for Ramsey at the same time and provide feedback.
Linda McCauley, Regeneration Manager, Isle of Man Government, said: “Old Post Office Lane is the first part of the regeneration of Ramsey. It links the Quayside to Parliament Street opposite the new Courthouse Post Office. The Ramsey Regeneration Committee is working with the Post Office and local property owners to introduce public art into the Lane. The theme for the public art is the post and some of the photographs and stories of postmen (and women!) may be just what we want to bring new life into the Lane.”
