Herman Loubser, a 12 year old student at Ballakermeen High School, is a European golf champion. He beat off stiff opposition from 43 countries over three rounds of the famous Gullan course in Scotland in the US Kids Golf European Championship. Herman finished one stroke ahead of a pursuing group, maintaining the lead he held from the first round. He normally benefits from a handicap of four strokes, but in this competition all the golfers played from scratch. Herman has been playing since he was 7 and is a regular at the Peel and Mount Murray courses, receiving coaching from his sporty dad Johan. He has competed locally with success for the last three years.
