Public Welcome at Celebratory Concert

by isleofman.com 16th June 2011
The public is invited to St John Ambulance’s celebratory concert on Friday 24th June at 7.30pm. It takes place at St George’s Church in Douglas and is led by the Venerable Brian Smith, the Archdeacon of Sodor and Man, and the Reverend Peter Upton-Jones, chaplain to St John Ambulance Isle of Man. It marks St John’s Day – a celebration of the life-saving charity’s work over the last year. Iain Kewley, Commander of St John Ambulance Isle of Man, and Martin Blackburn, Deputy Commander, will give readings. New cadets – represented by Tony Foster and Aisha Jepson – will be formally enrolled and will read the Cadet Code of Chivalry, through which they pledge to serve God, be loyal to the Queen and their officers, observe the mottos of the Order of St John, carry out their tasks thoroughly and be ‘cheerful and prompt’ in all they do. Long service awards and promotions will also be presented. The St John Youth Assembly will lead a prayer. There will be music from Castletown Metropolitan Silver Band, under the baton of Rodney Evans. The band will also accompany hymns. Musical items will also be provided by Yn Troor (Marlene Hendy, Dilys Sowrey and Ken Bawden, accompanied by Marilyn Cannell) and by Valerie Kinrade. The proceeds of a collection will be divided between the church and St John Ambulance. Following the service, all those attending are welcome to stay for refreshments served by the St John Fellowship.
