Tickets for the popular Yn Chruinnaght Inter-Celtic Festival can be purchased from today, Friday 17th June. The festival runs from 18th to 24th July and brings a mix of Celtic music and dance from all six Celtic countries. Tickets are available from Shakti Man (Ramsey), Celtic Gold (Peel), Thompson Travel (Port Erin), and Peter Norris Music and Mostly Manx (Douglas). You can also send an email request to ynchruinnaght@manx.net or phone or text (07624 425957). Over the last few years many of the ticketed events have sold out, so the festival committee recommends that you buy tickets early to avoid disappointment!
One of the highlights of the festival will be the dynamic Scottish supergroup, Capercaillie. Presented in conjunction with the DCCL, the gig will showcase a group which has been performing for over 25 years, having popularised Gaelic singing to a worldwide audience, achieving the first ever top 40 hit for a Gaelic song with ‘Coisich A' Ruin.’ Capercaillie will be performing at the Villa Marina, Douglas, on Monday 18th July. Tickets for this event cost ?16, and can be purchased from the Villa Marina box office on 01624 600555, or online at www.villagaiety.com
For those energetic people who enjoy dancing, events at Yn Chruinnaght include a Breton Dance Night at Ramsey Masonic Hall on Wednesday 20th July, and a Giant Ceili at Doulas Masonic on Saturday 23rd July sponsored by Manx Telecom. Both dance nights start at 8pm, and are great family fun, so ticket prices have been kept deliberately low at ?5 (?3 conc.) for the Breton Dance Night, and ?6 (?4 conc.) for the Giant Ceili.
The featured concerts at the festival are talented Irish-Breton band, Guidewires, on Friday 22nd July, and Scottish Gaelic singing sensation, Maeve MacKinnon, on Sunday 24th July. Both concerts are sponsored by Manx Telecom and are held at the Centenary Centre in Peel, and ticket prices for both events are ?12.50 (?7.50 conc.). If you buy tickets for both concerts at the same time, you can take advantage of a special deal price of ?22 (?14 conc.)!
Yn Chruinnaght is supported by the Manx Heritage Foundation and the IOM Arts Council.
The festival committee will have a stand on Tynwald Fair Day if you want to pick up a programme, catch some live music or buy festival merchandise. For more details, and a full list of events, go to: www.ynchruinnaght.com
