V Festival: Family Fun for Everyone!

by isleofman.com 20th June 2011
A Douglas primary school is holding a festival with a difference in July. Scoill Vallajeelt’s ‘V’ Festival is aiming to provide its community with something that goes beyond a traditional school fayre and deliver an afternoon of unique entertainment for all ages. Families with children from across the Isle of Man are invited to attend the ‘V’ Festival at Scoill Vallajeelt on Saturday July 9th. Circus acts, inflatable 'battlezone' a live band, Manx Playbus, megaslide, inflatable assault course, and a large outdoor roadshow are just some of the highlights that will make the event fun and entertaining for ticket holders. With the backing of local businesses such as Buchanan BMW who have sponsored the school’s local publicity, the Isle of Man Steam Packet who have assisted with the transport of equipment and support from Manx Radio in publicising the event across the island’s airwaves, the school’s ‘V’ Festival will aim to attract and entertain people ofall ages. A family connection has also brought about assistance with the event from much further afield. Headteacher Adrian Shorthouse’s brother Trevor, who lives in the UK, has also volunteered to transport his 24ft long roadshow vehicle complete with flashing disco lights and intricate sound mixer to the Island. Trevor, who runs a security and events business in Shropshire, will take the ferry from Heysham to bring the 200% Sound International Roadshow equipment along with an inflatable ‘battlezone’ to support the festival. “This is real brotherly love! It is amazing what he is doing for us. I mentioned that the school would be holding an event in the Summer, but that we wanted to do something special for the community. Wanting to help, he offered to bring over all his event equipment,” said Adrian Shorthouse, Headteacher at Scoill Vallajeelt. “I am grateful to all those who are making this exciting event happen, particularly our sponsors and the school’s Friend’s association who are working so hard behind the scenes.” The all ticket event will run from 3pm to 6pm and is open to children who must be accompanied by their parents or grandparents. Families requiring tickets should contact the school office on 670844 or visit the school’s website for more information; www.sch.im/vallajeelt ENDS
