Douglas Civic Sunday Takes Place

The Douglas Borough Council civic Sunday service and parade took place on Sunday June 19, 2011. Douglas Mayor Councillor Ritchie McNicholl JP., accompanied by the Mayoress, Mrs Julie McNicholl, deputy mayor Councillor David Ashford and deputy mayoress Mrs Sylvia Ashford, Councillor Ashford’s mother, led the civic party and followed the parade from Douglas Town Hall to St George’s Church via Ridgeway Street, Prospect Hill, Athol Street and Upper Church Street. The service was conducted by Archdeacon the Ven Brian Smith and the mayor’s chaplain the Rev Les Lawrinson. The organist was Mr Chris Idle. The first lesson was read by the deputy mayor, the second, by the Mayor, and the address delivered by the mayor’s chaplain. Following the service the Mayor held a reception in the Council Chamber of Douglas Town Hall at which he thanked his guests for attending and the Archdeacon, the mayor’s chaplain, the choir of St George’s Church and the Douglas Town Band for ensuring a memorable civic Sunday for the borough.
