Wessex Junior Open and Wessex Shield Doubles.- July 7 to July 10from 4pm. If the entry is good some players may be asked to play on the Wednesday.
This will be the 25th year of the Wessex Junior event and we hope to make it special. The MD of Wessex Garage Ltd, Adrian Christian, played in the first event with his brother Stephen. The events are Mini Tennis 8yrs,9yrs and 10yrs – all mixed plus under 12, 14 and 18 Boys and Girls singles plus 10, 14 and 18 doubles. Will holders of the shields from 2010 please return them to the club office, engraved by no later than July 6.

The Presidents Day competition for the very handsome En-Tout-Cas Shield has been re-arranged for Sunday July 3, from 11am to 4pm. This is an adult event, entry is mixed pairs or if you haven’t a partner maybe Bryan Sharp can find one for you. There is a draw for partners. Maximum entry is 16 pairs so enter early. Entry forms are at the club, you can enter by e-mail ballabreck@manx.net or phone 861497. Fee is ?6 which includes a Wimbledon theme lunch.
The Children of Chernobyl will be visiting the club on Tuesday 19 July for tennis coaching/play plus lunch. Ian Watson is organizing the on court activities and requires 4 or 5 on court helpers. Last Saturday saw the club absolutely buzzing with activities including the IOMLTA Senior Closed Championships, the club’s Summer Series June Mini Tennis and a Family Fun Day with barbeque. Results and report from the Mini events next week . Congratulations to Laura Feely and Billy Harris on claiming the IOMLTA Closed Women’s and Men’s Singles titles.
Finally I am sure everyone in Island tennis will wish the tennis team Good Luck in the Nat West Island Games in the Isle of Wight. We have a strong team which should bring back some medals.
