A new project funded by Peel Heritage Trust to photograph shops and shopkeepers in Peel will begin next month. Taking inspiration from both nostalgic old photographs of Peel in days gone by and modern web-based projects capturing shop fronts in London and other UK cities, the project will take a snapshot of business in Peel in the year 2011 and preserve it for future generations to enjoy. The project is being led by Chris Littler Webdesign, and Chris said "I'm really pleased that Peel Heritage Trust have recognised the value in this project and made it possible. We are still in the planning stages, but I've already had interest from others who would like to get involved, and I was delighted that all the shop keepers I approached in an initial sweep expressed their willingness to take part, and we also hav the support of the Peel Chamber of Trade. Whilst the digital age has made photography very plentiful these days, it is also very transient, and I wanted to make a systematic attempt to record life as it is in Peel today and preserve it for the future. I also want to collect some infomation about the businesses and what is known about businesses that occupied the same premises before them. I'm keen, as well, to make the project as big as we we can, but that will depend on getting more sponsors." A new website www.peel2011.com has details of how you can get involved.
