Inspector Mark Britton of the Roads Policing Unit issues the following media release.
“The Isle of Man Parish walk will again hit the roads and pavements of the Isle of Man this weekend. The route starts at the NSC at 8am on Saturday 25th June 2011. Motorists are advised to find alternative routes and avoid the areas within the early miles of the walk. The road between the Strang and Crosby Cross Roads will be closed between 08:20 and 09:30am again this year to maximise the safety of walkers. As the event extends into the dark hours of night motorists are reminded that they can expect to see pedestrians on the road in areas where they may not normally see pedestrians at that time. Please take care particularly in the North and East of the Island. The Isle of Man Constabulary works closely with the organisers and the marshals of this event to promote safety. Walkers taking part have guidelines on their safety as do their support vehicles.
Please take your part in making the event safe again this year and drive carefully around the roads on the course, there may be walkers and support vehicles in the area. Officers from the Isle of Man Special Constabulary work hard to manage the smooth running of the event and I pay personal tribute and thanks to them for their work in this event. Officers from the Roads Policing Unit on motorcycle will support the Special Constabulary and Marshalls for the event. This is a growing event with a proud tradition and the Constabulary is proud to play a part in it. Somewhere in the region of 1750 people are expected to take part this year. I wish them the best of luck and hope that the planning for the event makes it a safe one.”
