Tomorrow evening sees the 40th anniversary of the Laxey Fair.........
The event starts at 6.30pm when the Chairman of the Fair Committee Steve Rodan SHK, alights from the newly refurbished tram no 7 at the Laxey MER station with Dudley Butt MLC (who will open the Fair) , local Chairmen of the Commissioners and members of Peel Victorian Society all in Victorian costume. This special guest party will be greeted by Laxey school children in Victorian / miners costume who will then be led in parade by Onchan Silver Band from the Rose Gardens (by the MER station) to the Valley Gardens - the Fair ground.
This 40th modern Fair follows a tradition of providing pleasure for all ages in the true spirit of the village Fair. Its success depends on the variety and quality of the stalls and entertainments. We are fortunate to have the support of so many local cultural and charitable organisations from Laxey, Lonan, Maughold and beyond. The basis of the Fair is to enable these individual groups to raise money for their voluntary work and perhaps, also, to gain new recruits. So in supporting the Fair, you are supporting a wide range of Island good causes.
The Gaelic name Feailley means feast or festival, so this is the time to enjoy yourselves in a truly festive manner.
Come along and join the fun of the fair!
