Celton Manx Lends Support To Bobby Moore Fund Golf Day

by isleofman.com 23rd June 2011
Celton Manx is pleased to announce its sponsorship of a golf day being held next month to benefit the Bobby Moore Fund. Stephanie Moore MBE established the Bobby Moore Fund in partnership with Cancer Research UK in memory of her late husband Bobby Moore OBE who sadly died from bowel cancer, aged just 51. Each year the fund raises over ?2 million for the research and treatment of bowel cancer. Bowel cancer is the third most common cancer in the UK and almost 100 people are diagnosed with the disease every day. The event which is being held at the Mount Murray Hotel and Country Club on the 15th July, is being organised by Island resident and friend of the Moore’s Lars T Ugland. Lars said: ‘I am very pleased to be working with Celton Manx again, the company has been a staunch supporter of the Bobby Moore Fund and I thank them for all the support they have given the charity. ‘I used to be the Norwegian Football Association UK representative and got to know Bobby and even played against him a few times! Stephanie is such an inspirational person and the tireless fundraising of the Bobby Moore Fund obtains extraordinary results in the research and treatment of bowel cancer. Myself and the on-Island committee members are honoured to be able to contribute to this work.’ A charity set up in the memory of such a footballing legend is bound to have a large number of celebrity supporters and attending the golf day will be Olympian Kriss Akabusi MBE and former England and Watford footballer, Luther Blissett as well as Bobby’s widow Stephanie. Executive Director of Celton Manx Bill Mummery said: ‘When I heard that Lars was organising a golf day and dinner to benefit the Bobby Moore Fund I jumped at the chance for Celton Manx to be involved. Our brand, SBOBET, is the official sponsor of West Ham United, and therefore our connections to the Bobby Moore Fund are obvious. ‘Bobby made 544 appearances for West Ham United between 1958 – 1974 and lifted the FA Cup and European Cup Winners Cup during his captaincy. He is of course best known for captaining the World Cup winning England team in the 1966 final and being the only England captain to lift the famous Jules Rimet trophy. He is a true legend of English football. ‘The work carried out by Cancer Research UK and the Bobby Moore Fund is outstanding and we are proud to be supporting it once again at this event.’ The cost for a team entry is ?1000 for four and includes 18 holes of golf and an evening dinner. There is also the opportunity to bid for some money-can’t-buy auction prizes including a child’s mascot place and tickets to watch England at Wembley.
