This weekend, the 25th and 26th June, the Manx Model Boat Club are holding their annual open competitions for model boats and their builders, in both construction and use afloat, under the banner “Mannanan 2011”. This is the 15th running of the event and atracts entrants from off Island too. Both days start at 10am and are scheduled to finish at 4.30pm. Saturday is at Onchan Park boating lake with “steering and tug towing” competitions. Sunday is at Silverdale Glen boating lake with “on-the-water and scale” competitions. The weekend concludes with the now famous “fun competition”, usually after 3pm, with boats in a frenzied mayhem attempting to retrieve plastic floats for points. A presentation dinner is on Monday evening, at the Silverdale, where the winners are announced and awarded their Mannanan 2011 prizes. Any and all are welcome at both venues where all boats are displayed for your critical appraisal and enjoyment. Who knows, this may be the start of a new pasttime for you!
