Celton Manx is delighted to announce its support of the Isle of Man Cancer Research UK Relay for Life which is taking place on Saturday 27th August.
Gaynor Haxby, Chair of the Relay Committee said: ‘It is fantastic to be welcoming Celton Manx on board as the main sponsor for Relay for Life, Isle of Man. Their support will cover the main costs of staging the event and means that all the money we raise can go straight to Cancer Research UK to help beat cancer.’
In 2010, the Island staged its first ever Relay for Life at the National Sports Centre in Douglas and raised a staggering ?44,000 to help beat cancer. Teams from all over the Island gathered to take part in the 24 hour relay walk around the NSC athletics track. The first lap was led off by His Worship the Mayor of Douglas and the guests of honour for the event, the cancer survivors.
The only time during the 24 hours when the track is empty is for the Candle of Hope Ceremony. At dusk, candles are lit and placed inside Candle of Hope bags, decorated in dedication to a cancer survivor or a loved one lost to cancer. Last year, over 400 Candle of Hope bags were dedicated to those touched by cancer.
Celton Manx Executive Director Bill Mummery said: ‘1 in 3 people will be affected by cancer at some point in their lives and I am sure we all know somebody whose life has been touched by cancer in some way. The money raised by Relay for Life is donated directly to Cancer Research UK to benefit the Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology where the majority of Manx cancer patients are treated. Celton Manx is committed to working with initiatives which benefit our local community and we are very pleased to be supporting such a worthwhile event. I wish the teams the best of luck and encourage everyone to get down to the NSC to cheer on the walkers on the 27th August.’
Gaynor added: ‘We want as many people as possible to sign-up for the event but if you aren’t free all day, why not come along, make a donation and support the walkers taking part. There will be lots going on to keep you entertained including live bands and music from 3FM, our media partners.’
Cancer Research UK Relay for Life Isle of Man sponsored by Celton Manx takes place on Saturday 27th August from 12 noon.
