Isle of Man Crimestoppers is seeking a new volunteer Chair to succeed Stuart McCudden who will shortly be standing down after three years in the post. Crimestoppers is an independent charity fighting criminal activity in the Isle of Man and the volunteer Chair leads a group of around 12 volunteers who seek to raise awareness about the role of the charity.
The role requires an individual who can lead and motivate a team, lead activities to raise funds in order to deliver awareness campaigns, and engage media, government agencies and police to ensure the activities of Crimestoppers are relevant and targeted to the crime issues of the Island. Phil O’Shea, a former volunteer Chair who has recently been appointed Deputy Chair of the Crimestoppers charity’s national Advisory Board, said:
“We seek an enthusiastic leader who can build upon the excellent progress achieved under Stuart McCudden’s leadership. It is vital that Crimestoppers continues to tackle the sources of criminal activity affecting the Island, to engage our young people about crime facts and impacts and to ensure that anybody who wishes to pass on information knows that they can do so without needing to give any personal details. Whilst not requiring a large time commitment the Chair person needs to be able to make a positive impact and to ensure that all of the volunteers are appropriately engaged to deliver the agreed activities, which increasingly have a regional focus on the Island.”
A role profile is available and members of the Crimestoppers Board will be pleased to have an informal, confidential discussion with anyone interested in the post. For more details contact Phil O’Shea by emailing philoshea1@manx.net or by calling 07624 460123. Isle of Man Crimestoppers is part of the UK Crimestoppers 'family' and is an independent Manx charity dedicated to fighting crime across the Island. The charity focuses on local issues that are important to the community - improving crime detection, enhancing quality of life, and giving residents and visitors alike 'Freedom to Flourish'. Isle of Man Crimestoppers promotes its work to let people know that the charity is working for the community and is there for them as an anonymous route to pass on information about crime by using the Crimestoppers hotline 0800 555111. Crimestoppers guarantees anonymity, which means that no-one can ever find out who passed on information. All calls are handled by the UK Crimestoppers Call Centre. Manx callers can therefore be assured of their complete anonymity.
