Bishop Annouces 2 New Appointments

The Bishop is pleased to announce the Ordination as Deacons and appointments of two new Assistant Curates in the Diocese. The Reverend Diane Marchment and the Reverend James McGowan are to be ordained by the Bishop as Deacons in the Cathedral at Peel on Sunday 3 July in a service which commences at 10.30am. The Reverend Diane Marchment is to be Assistant Curate in the Parish of St Ninian’s, Douglas Diane was born in the Isle of Man and lived her early Island life in St John’s. Leaving the Island to study at Loughborough University. After leaving university she served as a police constable in Leicestershire for 11 years, before returning home to the Island. Diane then trained as an accountant and has worked in accountancy practice and in business. Diane trained locally and was licensed as a Reader in 2005 at Marown Parish Church. In 2010 she left the Island again to study at Ridley Hall Theological College in Cambridge. She brings expertise in people money management skills and Christian listening with her to her new role. Diane is married to John and has three grown up sons. The Reverend James McGowan is to be Assistant Curate in the Parishes of Patrick and German. James was born and brought up in Morley, West Yorkshire. He has studied theology at York St John University before moving north to Durham to complete a Post Graduate Certificate in Secondary Education. After completion of teacher training he was appointed Head of Religious Studies in a Church of England Secondary School in Stockton on Tees. The past three years have been spent training for ministry at Cranmer Hall, Durham and completing academic studies at the University of Durham. James has gained experience centred on a number of placements ranging from town parishes to multi benefice rural ministries, a city centre Minster Church in Sunderland, inner city council estates in Newcastle, hospital chaplaincy and time working with a church in Northern Ireland, and a rural ‘commuter’ community in the Wear Valley on the edge of Gateshead. He is married to Caroline and has a young son, George. Interests include cooking using unusual food combinations, VW camper vans and occasional DIY Ends
