Thomas Miller (Isle of Man) Limited recently invited Brenda Brown to their offices on Mt Havelock for the signing of her poetry books ‘Mac the Mouse’ and ‘Sound of the Sea’.
Staff from Thomas Miller presented Brenda with a cheque for ?360 which was raised from the book sales and an additional contribution from the company. The poetry books form part of a series that Brenda has written in order to help raise funds for the Manx / Walton Centre Research Fund. The Walton Centre in Liverpool is an NHS Hospital Trust, which provides specialist care and treatment for people with illnesses or injuries that affect the brain or central nervous system. On average the DHSS refers 800 patients annually. The Walton Centre is recognised as one of the most utilised specialist hospitals for patient referrals from the Isle of Man.
Written for both children and adults, the books are beautifully reflective of the Isle of Man, drawing on all areas of island life, and have been illustrated by Brenda, her husband David and son Peter. The third book in the series, ‘Squeaky the Seagull’, has just been released. All three books can be purchased from Port Erin Gaslight Shop in Castletown, The Book Company in Douglas and Bridge Book Shop in Port Erin with full proceeds of the sale going to the Research Fund.
The donation forms part of Thomas Miller’s ongoing CSR project which is being developed in conjunction with its staff to help support a variety of local charities and enterprises.
Speaking of the support, Brenda said: “Many families on the Island like ours have cause to be very grateful for the professional services and assistance received at the Walton Centre. I wish to take this opportunity to thank the management and staff of Thomas Miller (Isle of Man) Limited for contributing to the funding of our Charity.”
