This years Parish Walk saw a record number of entrants, 4 of whom were walking the 85 mile course, or part of, in aid of Crossroads Caring for Carers (Isle of Man). Richard Betteridge (Rushen), Alexandra Wilson (Peel), Lynne Leech (Peel) and James Betteridge (Finish), raised ?962.00 for the Manx charity, with sponsorship still coming in. James Betteridge, on achieving his third Parish finish, said: “Overall, this years Parish Walk was fantastic. Both the weather and the spirits of the walkers and supporters made for an enjoyable day and next year I’ll be aiming for under 20 hours, again in aid of Crossroads Caring for Carers Isle of Man”. James finished 66th in 20:42:22, seeing a 2 hour 45 minute improvement on his finishing time of 23:27:30 in 2009, and the second biggest time improvement of anybody in the history of the Parish Walk. Alexandra Wilson, Crossroads Fundraiser, said: “the walk not only provides much needed funds for the charity to continue its meaningful work in the local community but awareness of the charity. It was a struggle to complete the 32.5 miles to Peel but nothing in comparison to the struggle that many family and informal Carers endure by caring without support”. “James’ closing statement when interviewed on the finish line, “Happy Days”, really sums it up for the charity in receiving many kind donations, both online and in person, that amounted to the total of just under ?1,000.00”. The foursomes fundraising efforts will go someway in providing the 1,000 hours of direct care and 1,000 hours of supportive services to people with care needs that the charity provides to the island every week.
