There were some excellent performances from the Team Royal London 360 members who competed in last Saturday's Tour of Blackpool youth races.
The event, which was the eighth round of British cycling's national circuit race series, was staged on a brand new circuit built within the grounds of the Palatine Sports Centre.
Percy Hampton got the ball rolling with a fine win in the under 8 class. Team mate Jake Wilson was second and Ben Peatfield (Bolton Hot Wheelers) third.
In the under 10's Charlie Gibson came from behind in the final sprint to grab a well deserved third place. Will Corkill was 15th, Chloe Crellin 17th (3rd girl) and Charlie Moss 21st (4th girl).
William Draper, Thomas Bostock and Eleanor Davies were in the thick of the action from the start of the under 12's event, taking the chequered flag in the main chasing group behind winner Tomos Owens (Mid Shropshire Wheelers) and his breakaway partner Daniel Tulett (Hargrove Cycles). Draper was credited with seventh place, Bostock 15th and Davies a very good 16th (3rd girl).
In the under 14 boys Glen Vine's Matthew Bostock was the best of the RL360 racers in tenth position. Nathan Draper was 16th, Michael Moss 20th and Matthew Draper, who was often seen at the front of the field, 28th. In the under 16 and under 14 girls races Sophie Black and Elizabeth Holden rode impressively for 10th and 11th p[aces respectively.
Jake Kelly produced one of his best performances of the season to take a superb second place in the under 16 boys. Josh Knights also rode brilliantly to grab fourth in a large field of over 70 riders, with the ever improving Jamie Dudley, who still has another year to go in this age group, finishing 27th in the main bunch.
Kelly and eventual winner Jacob Scott (Planet X) rode away from the field on lap 12 and stayed clear to the finish where Scott dropped Kelly on the final circuit. Knights was in a small chasing group of three riders who crossed the line just eight seconds behind the leading duo.
The previous weekend ten of the RL360 riders were in Curborough for round seven of the series. The highlights included William Draper's superb third place in the under 12's and Charlie Gibson's sixth in the under 10's. There were also good top twenty point scoring positions for Jake Kelly (13th in the U/16's), Nathan Draper, Matthew Bostock (16th & 18th in the U/14's), Thomas Bostock (15th in the U/12's), Anna Christian and Sophie Black (12th & 17th in the U/16 girls).
