Unlocking The Past

by isleofman.com 7th July 2011
This coming Saturday afternoon (9th July) is your chance to be one of the first to own a copy of a brand new book just published by Manx National Heritage. ‘Unlocking the Past: A guide to exploring family and local history in the Isle of Man’ by Matthew Richardson is being launched in conjunction with the iMuseum, the new MNH digital records facility. The book offers practical advice on researching areas such as your family tree, the history of your village, house or business, or the names on your local war memorial, to name just a few. ‘Unlocking The Past’ reveals the many different historical records and resources available on the Isle of Man, including photographic collections, maps and military records and how they can be used alongside sources in other parts of the world. Most importantly it explains why Manx records are different from the UK, showing why Manx family and local history is unique. Lavishly illustrated in full colour, with numerous case studies, the book is not yet available.. Priced at just ?12 this will become an invaluable handbook for anyone interested in local history. Be the first to secure a copy of ‘Unlocking The Past’ at the iMuseum on 9th July. The author Matthew Richardson will present a short talk and be on-hand to sign your copy at 3.30pm. The book is also available to pre-order from www.manxheritageshop.com for delivery after 9th July and soon to be on the shelves at Manx National Heritage shops across the Island. Look out for the other events this week celebrating the opening of the iMuseum. For more information call the Manx Museum on (01624) 648000. ENDS
