Strand Centre Clock Competition Won by Ballakermeen Student

by isleofman.com 7th July 2011
The winner of a competition to design a clock for the Strand Shopping Centre was announced at a special assembly at the school. 15 year-old Nicole Wood submitted the winning design, and the clock was built by Ballakermeen’s Head of Design Technology, Paul Carr. Praising the winning entry and the standard of all the designs, centre manager John Shakespeare said that although the Strand was opened over 20 years ago it had never had a clock. Nicole’s design reflected the retail theme through the shopping bags, the love of shopping through the heart motif, and the importance of being Manx through the three legs. The clock will soon be on display in the shopping centre, which attracts a substantial number of visitors every week. Nicole received a Ninento DS, while runners-up David Northover and Holly Lowe were given vouchers, courtesy of HMV. Further information: Paul Carr 648700 p.carr@bhs.sch.im ENDS
