Royal London Youth Cycling League Round 12 Report & Results

by isleofman.com 7th July 2011
Despite the changeable weather conditions and alternative attractions of Tynwald Day, there was a good entry of 263 competitors at the NSC last Tuesday night for round 12 of the club's Royal London 360 youth league. Relative newcomer Alexander Galloway scored his maiden victory in the novices class, picking up maximum points in only his third race of the series. Leading girl Jemma Quayle outsprinted Matthew Gledhill for the runners-up spot and Peter Lloyd made up ground in the closing stages to snatch fourth from Kate Morris and Sophie Keen. The ever improving Joseph Corlett led Aoife Hartley and Eddy Dillon over the line for seventh, with Myles Le Geyt overtaking Joseph Devereau on the finishing straight to complete the top ten leader board. Zachary Dowson further strengthened his bid for the overall honours by notching up his eighth success in the born 2006 & later age group. Three time winner Corey Peters was a solid second and David Sargent outgunned Ivan Sorby, Cian Jackson, Drystan Sewell and Charlie Convery in the dash for the final place on the podium. Harry Fox led Kazu Senior and Edward Marsh in for eighth, with Hollie Palmer taking the girls' prize in 16th spot. In one of the closest finishes of the night Niall Colquitt beat Harry Kneen by the narrowest of margins to grab the spoils in the born 2005 race. Mairi Harrison pipped Chloe Dillon for third and Jacob O'Boyle came home on his own for fifth. Nathan Cannell edged out Oliver Corkish, Bradley Kneen and Frank Kinnish for sixth, while James Scott held off chasers Robert Docherty, Tom Corrin and Liam Smith to secure tenth. Zac Walker outmanoeuvred breakaway partner Dillon Dowson on the final lap to edge the win the born 2004 event. Joshua Dudley headed Ralf Holden, Cameron Dudley and James Devereau in the gallop for third, leaving former travelling companions Oliver Harrison, Nathan Slack and Daniel Keen behind to pick up seventh, eighth and ninth places respectively. Kiera Prentice, Nancy Wheeler and Sophia Littlewood were the first three girls in 18th, 19th and 20th positions. Bagging his seventh victory of the season, Percy Hampton was too strong for fellow frontrunner Jake Wilson in the charge for the flag in the born 2003 category. Jonty Bregazzi led Jack Christian in for third and Matthew Black got past Thomas Skillicorn in the final few metres to snatch fifth. Tyler Hannay took the sprint for seventh ahead of Thomas Young, Ryan Quirk and top girl Darcy Cain. In the born 2002 three lapper Will Corkill held the advantage coming out of the final corner but just failed to hold off Aaron Lund in the dash for the line. James Harrison trailed in for third and Corrin Leeming had the upper hand on Nicholas Kissack in the tussle for fourth. Blae Cain got the girls' award in sixth slot and Charlie Moss beat Nathanael Tyson for seventh. Liam Crook and Louis Dean rounded off the top ten. Tosh Teare had to fight off a strong challenge from Max Walker before claiming victory in the born 2001 class. Juan Kneen was third followed by Adam Scarffe and Emma Draper. In the following born 2000 & earlier grouping Matthew Draper attacked on the penultimate lap and soloed to a comfortable win. Adam Kelly got the verdict over Sam Batey, Ben Christian, Lucas Mudie, Sam Mills and top girl Abby Quirk in the chase for second place. The under 10 and under 12 racing bike events both ended in bunch sprints. Aaron Lund took the former from Max Walker, Will Corkill and Percy Hampton, with William Draper winning the latter ahead of Thomas Bostock, Connor Davies and Eleanor Davies. In the under 16's Jamie Dudley produced his best ride of the series so far to get the better of Jake Kelly in the final sprint for the line. Josh Knights, Nicholas Corlett, Leon Mazzone and Matthew Bostock completed the top six. ROYAL LONDON 360 YOUTH LEAGUE RESULTS - ROUND 12 - TUESDAY, 5th JULY 2011 NOVICES 1. Alexander Galloway 2.
