Dot’s Dream Foundation – Cycle the TT Course 2011

by isleofman.com 11th July 2011
The sun was shining on the participants and supporters of the Dot’s Dream Foundation Cycle the TT Course Event, which took place on Saturday 9th July 2011. 38 cyclists young and old, including family and friends of Dot, were started off in fantastic style by Mayor of Douglas Mr Ritchie McNicholl, and Mayoress of Douglas, Mrs Julie McNicholl on a tandem cycle. The family of Dot, her two sons Stevie Pitts and Frankie Pitts and her son-in-law Allan Walkingshaw went next, and the groups were set off in staggered starts. Over 20 volunteer marshals were stationed around the course to keep the cyclists safe. Speaking about the event Stevie Pitts said – I first had the idea with a couple of friends, we’re not cyclists but thought it would be a challenge and something to work towards. It was a lot harder than we thought it would be but I think everyone enjoyed it and it ran really well. Most people did the whole course despite not being cyclists, and did it a lot faster than they thought so it was a great personal achievement for a lot of people. Out of 38 participants, 22 competitors managed to finish the whole course and were greeted at the finish line with a hard earned glass of bubbly and a Mars Bar. Although not a race, the fastest lap was completed by Ritchie Stevenson, a close friend of Dot and her family in 2 hours 24 minutes, and the runner up Mark Harrop just behind in 2 hours and 26 minutes. Most of the riders completed the course in around 3 hours or under and celebrations took place afterwards at St George’s Clubhouse with an awards ceremony and hog roast supper. The charity wish to thank all the participants, marshals, the Mayor and Mayoress, sponsors and supporters of the participants, together with Absolute Scaffolding for their sponsorship, Ambitions Recruitment and Moochers/Supercards for their support. The next event the charity have planned is a ‘Booze Cruise’ on the MV Karina on Saturday 30th July, tickets priced at ?20, for more details e-mail dotsdream@manx.net or find further details on Facebook. -ENDS-
