The History of the TT 1907-2010 released on DVD

by isleofman.com 12th July 2011
One of motorsport’s longest-running and most famous events this year marks yet another milestone in its illustrious history. In 2011, the Isle of Man TT, which first ran in 1907, celebrates 100 years of racing on the daunting Mountain course, the 37.7-mile track it transferred to in 1911. Now the definitive history of the world famous Isle of Man Tourist Trophy Races can be enjoyed on a 2-disc DVD in a programme which has been fully updated to cover the entire story right through to the awe-inspiring 2010 event. Since the beginning, the TT has made history and forged its place in sporting legend. From its modest beginnings the event grew into the leading event on the international motorcycle Grand Prix calendar – in fact hosting the very first race of what is today known as MotoGP. Names like Mike Hailwood, Giacomo Agostini, Geoff Duke and John Surtees are synonymous with the golden era of the TT, an era which was brought to an end amid safety fears. Although threatened with extinction, the TT battled on and created a new generation of heroes, most notably the 26-times winner Joey Dunlop, and soon the Mountain course was the place to race as part of an international career – as the arrival of rising stars such as Carl Fogarty and Steve Hislop proved. In recent years, thanks to racers like David Jefferies and John McGuinness and hard work behind the scenes, the TT has returned to its rightful place at the pinnacle of motorcycle racing. Today, major teams attend, leading riders compete and household names can be spotted spectating in the TT paddock. Some thought the event’s future could be under threat after the Centenary celebrations in 2007, but nothing could have been further from the truth as the TT goes from strength to strength. The story told in this new 2-disc DVD proves that, taking the history right through to the conclusion of the record-breaking 2010 TT, when a new ‘history man’ emerged in the shape of Ian Hutchinson – the first man ever to win five solo TT races in a week! The History of the TT 1907-2010 reveals how the event began as a test of motorcycle reliability and grew into the world’s greatest road racing festival. Superb footage, revealing interviews and thoroughly researched commentary tells the story of the TT from its humble beginnings to the ultrafast modern era. Based on the highly acclaimed three-part Isle of Man TT Races video series, this 2- disc DVD set contains revised, updated and extended footage, plus additional material covering the triumphs, tragedies, controversies and record-breaking performances right through to 2010. The production team scoured thousands of hours of film and archive footage, and recorded dozens of interviews with riders and personalities, to create a comprehensive record of memorable sights and sounds, including a special tribute to Joey Dunlop, one of the TT’s greatest racers and ambassadors. The History of the TT 1907-2010 features the very first races and action from 1920 onwards, plus every Senior Race winner. This is the complete story – the challenges and the glory, the famous names and unforgettable races, and excitement and unique drama.
