The Wessex Junior Open & Wessex Shield Doubles 2011 concluded on Sunday in brilliant sunshine,- no rain at Ballaughton! - with a very enjoyable programme of matches, including some exciting Boys 10 & under doubles. This was the 25th time that Wessex had sponsored this event. The prizes were presented by Adrian Christian, who had played in the inaugural event with his brother Stephen and won the 18 and under doubles. A club member, Linda Donald, had made a special cake, designed as a tennis court thanking Wessex for the support, which was soon eaten after the presentations. Tournament Convenor wishes to thank her hardworking band of umpires: Vic Ferns, Emma Raybon, Seraphina Batty, Ben Cunningham, Nick Wait, James Davis, Trac y Simmons, Richard Formby, Bryan Sharp. Also Clare Skelcher-Maxwell for making the much prized certificates and Ian Watson (Referee) Results: 8yrs and under Mixed–r/r–Group one –winner Zac Walker r/up Ben Ferns; Group B winner Oliver Wait, r/up Oliver Dean; Group C winner Amelia Garrett, r/up Sam Keig; Group D winner Sam Skelcher-Maxwelll,r/up Amaline Batty. K/O Qtr.Finals Zac bt Sam K 10-3, Oliver D. bt Sam S-M 10-4, Ben bt Amelia 10-1, Oliver W. bt Amaline 10-5; Semi-finals Zac bt Oliver D 10/9, Oliver W bt Ben 10-4; The Final was a close, hard-fought match with Oliver Wait eventually beating Zac Walker 8/10,10/2,10/5. Most improved players Roch Mirski and Oliver Dean. 9yrs and under – Mixed – QF Harry Walters bt Hugo Cruz-O’Dwyer 4/1,Josh Mills bt A J Go 4/2, Amelia Garrett bt Zac Walker 4/0, Patrick McCord bt Luca Simmons 4/2; SF Harry bt Josh 4/1, Amelia bt Patrick 4/0; Final Harry bt Amelia 4/0. ? place play-off Josh bt Patrick 4/2. Most improved players Amelia Garrett and Josh Mills. Play back - SF Ben Clarke bt Teddy Davis 4/1, Louis bt Sam Keig 4/1 Final Ben bt Louis 5/3.
