Cancer Patients To Receive Survey

by isleofman.com 15th July 2011
The Department of Health is undertaking a survey of Isle of Man cancer patients to find out more about their experiences with cancer care, so that services can be improved. The survey will be administered by Quality Health, an organisation which has completed similar surveys across England. A cross-section of patients who have been treated for cancer will receive a questionnaire by post. The questionnaire will explore various aspects of their experience as a patient at Noble’s Hospital. The survey is anonymous and voluntary. David Anderson MHK, Minister for Health said “The Department of Health always welcomes the views of patients, and conducts regular surveys of service areas to seek feedback, allowing us to act on this and improve services. We’re always looking to raise the bar so I would encourage any patient receiving a survey to spare a few moments to let us have their views on this critical service so that we can improve the experience of all patients.” Dr Kishore, Director of Public Health and Chair of the Isle of Man Cancer Strategy Group said “This survey will inform the Isle of Man Cancer Strategy; I would like to request all patients who receive the questionnaire to complete and return it. The information will help shape cancer services, which are so dependent upon patient feedback.” Elizabeth McGowan, Cancer Services Improvement Nurse and the local coordinator for the survey said “We want to get cancer care right for all of our patients. All feedback is welcome, so I really hope cancer patients tell us what their experience has been. The Department of Health has never undertaken such an in-depth cancer patient survey. The results will enable us to explore cancer patient experiences and the Isle of Man Cancer Strategy Group will be able to refer to patients experience and plan care based on this qualitative evidence.” It is hoped results and an action plan will be available for publication in early 2012. Patients completing the survey with any queries can contact Elizabeth McGowan Cancer Services Improvement Nurse on 650723. - ENDS -
