Over 170 people enjoyed a Chamber concert by members of the Isle of Man Symphony Orchestra at Trinity Methodist Church on Sunday 17th July.
The programme, under the baton of Maurice Powell and leadership of William Pickering, included highlights such as Saint Saens’ Cello Concerto no.1 with former Young Musician of Mann Eleanor Jones as soloist, Handel’s Organ Concerto ‘The Cuckoo and the Nightingale’ and Albinoni’s haunting Adagio, both with organ soloist John Riley, along with favourite extracts from Handel’s Water Music and Pergolesi’s beautiful Stabat Mater, with top soloists Karen Elliott (soprano) and Adrienne Murray (mezzo soprano.)
Sue Collier Chairman of the 125 Committee said, “It was a fabulous afternoon, the music and soloists were excellent. We were delighted that the Isle of Man Symphony Orchestra agreed to be part of our 125 year of celebrations. It was a rare and exciting opportunity to hear such as varied orchestral programme and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.”
