Be Seen and ‘Green’ in the Park on July 24

by isleofman.com 20th July 2011
Douglas Borough Council is holding a fun day this Sunday, July 24, in Noble’s Park. Council leader councillor David Christian said: ‘This is very much a fun day out for all the family but, as a local authority committed to an environmentally responsible waste management programme, we wanted to take the opportunity to help highlight some green issues in an entertaining way. To this end there will be a “green zone” that will host a range of environmental activities, together with stands manned by representatives from energy-saving and waste management agencies, along with displays of artwork produced from recycled material, while our own Henry Bloom Noble Library will be holding a books sale. ‘It was regrettable that poor weather forced the cancellation of last year’s event. This year, however, we have been encouraged by the level of support shown by local businesses and organisations who, together with Council staff from across a wide range of functions, have made tremendous efforts to ensure the 2011 fun day will be a memorable event.’ Entertainment will include Douglas Town Band, Onchan Entertainers and live bands performing on the bandstand throughout the afternoon. The fun day will be opened at 2pm by His Worship, the Mayor of Douglas, Councillor Ritchie McNicholl JP. - Ends -
