North Quay To Host Three Market Fairs

by isleofman.com 25th July 2011
Traditional skills and entertainment – from Punch and Judy to magicians - along with live music, craft stalls, street performers and food retailers are to feature at three market fairs taking place in late summer through to autumn on the North Quay. Market co-ordinator Chris Carr said: ‘These three market fairs will be really special, with a strong emphasis on showcasing local culture and talent. There’ll be stalls the full length of the North Quay from the Clarendon to Quine’s Corner, along with street entertainers and live music and demonstrations of skills we’re keen to see preserved, such as reed-making. The quay’s busy throughout the summer so these three market fairs will ensure it stays lively right through to autumn and into Christmas, when we’re planning to hold another sensational event. To borrow a phrase from a popular TV show, these markets are going to be absolutely fabulous.’ Town centre manager Gill Anderson said: ‘These three events build on the tremendous success of last year’s summer and Christmas markets. They’ll be on a more ambitious scale, though, and will capitalise on the North Quay’s great potential as a unique retail, leisure and performance space.’ The market fairs will be held on Saturday August 27, September 10 and October 8 from 10am to 4pm and are being organised by the North Quay Community Association, (NQCA) the recently formed not-for-profit body established to develop and promote the North Quay as a prime entertainment and leisure destination.
