Cancellation of Old England

by isleofman.com 26th July 2011
The IOM Cricket Association regrets to inform that a visit this summer to the IOM by OLD ENGLAND XI has been cancelled. The Old England XI, whose players have either played for England in either One Day International’s or Test Series, was due to have played the Isle of Man Bank sponsored national side over the weekend of 19th to 21st August 2011. All events running in conjunction with the visit, namely dinner at Mount Murray on the evening of Friday, and a golf day and a barbeque at Cronkbourne on the Saturday have also been cancelled. Barry Smith, Chair of IOM Cricket Association said – “ The IOMCA regrets to advise that the visit by OLD ENGLAND XI has had to be cancelled. However due to the lack of support for the functions we had no alternative but to cancel the visit . It is a great pity as this would have been an excellent opportunity for the cricketing fraternity and supporters on the Island to see a very talented team play and to meet the players informally. We thank the Old England players for their interest and being so keen to come to the Island. ” Ends
