Weekly Evening Trains To Castletown

by isleofman.com 27th July 2011
Steam trains will be operating special evening runs between Douglas and Castletown every Thursday throughout the summer. Starting this week (28 July) until 1 September, the evening service will depart Douglas at 7.20pm, arriving in the ancient capital for 8pm. The return train departs Castletown at 9.30pm, arriving back in Douglas at 10.10pm. Manx National Heritage is extending Castle Rushen’s opening hours until 9pm on Thursdays to enable visitors to enjoy the medieval fortress during the summer evenings. A mix of musicians or entertainments will be staged at the castle on Thursday nights, including young bands from the Department of Education and Children Youth Service music project Soundcheck playing on 18 August. Additionally, a hog roast will be in the castle grounds on the evening of 25 August. Hon David Cretney MHK, Minister for Community, Culture and Leisure, said: ‘Once again we are linking with other organisations to put on a varied programme of special events designed to appeal to both visitors and residents. If you’re stuck for something to do on a Thursday night, this is the ideal opportunity to explore Castle Rushen after normal opening hours. Alternatively, the timings would allow for a stroll around Castletown taking in the scenery or some refreshments.’ For more information tel: 662525 or visit: www.iombusandrail.info. ENDS
