New Appointments at Callin Wild

by isleofman.com 1st August 2011
Former Isle of Man attorney general John Corlett has accepted an invitation to join Douglas law firm Callin Wild as a consultant. Mr Corlett, who retired earlier this year from his government post, said: ‘After 13 extremely enjoyable years as attorney general I am looking forward to re-establishing links with private and commercial clients as a member of the Callin Wild team. ‘I joined the firm in June so it is early days yet, but one of the areas we have identified where I hope to apply my expertise is that of tax information exchange agreements (TIEAs), a structure I helped bring to the Isle of Man during my time as attorney general and one that is becoming increasingly important as the Island is committed to demonstrating it is a responsible international player and robustly regulated jurisdiction. To this end we are looking at holding seminars on the topic to provide clients with guidelines on how to respond to requests for TIEAs.’ He added: ‘Already since I joined it is clear that Callin Wild, with its local and international client base, is a very friendly and open practice and I was pleased to learn that it has been recommended in the Best Business Guide for 12 consecutive years as a firm noted for being helpful, professional and very quick.’ Prior to becoming attorney general Mr Corlett was senior partner at Corlett Bolton and earlier a partner at the then Dickinson Cruickshank (now Appleby). Separately, Kathryn Clough has been made a partner in the firm. Mrs Clough, who qualified as an advocate 10 and a half years ago, joined Callin Wild in 2008 and specialises in commercial and trust litigation and fraud, working alongside fellow partners and litigation team members Jonathan Wild and Kevin Goldie. Mrs Clough said: ‘Between us in the litigation team we have more than 30 years experience, so are well placed not only to provide a comprehensive range of client services but also to share our expertise with the firm’s trainees and junior members and support their career development. ‘I am delighted to have been made a partner in the practice which is widely acknowledged as a leading law firm on the island. Whilst retaining a local focus it undertakes a substantial amount of international work. It has been a very friendly firm to work for with an excellent working environment which has been improved further subsequent to the move to our new office on Athol Street. I value highly this vote of confidence shown in me by Callin Wild and look forward to applying my skills to my expanded role, working with my fellow partners and contributing to the firm’s future growth.’ Additionally, Beth Greenhalgh has joined the firm. Miss Greenhalgh, who holds an MA from Edinburgh University, is a qualified English solicitor and was formerly with Appleby Isle of Man. She is a commercial property specialist with extensive experience in the discipline gained locally and in England and has advised on many development projects both in the Isle of Man and in England. She said: ‘I am very pleased to have joined Callin Wild, a practice that has a solid Isle of Man and international client base and is noted for its commitment to supporting its people and delivering a consistently high standard of service.’ Senior partner Jeremy Callin said: ‘These are exciting times for Callin Wild with our welcoming Kathryn as a partner, John and Beth joining the practice and our relocation to larger offices in Athol Street. The firm may be moving in new directions but we shall never compromise our strong local connections or our reputation for personal service and client focus.’ www.callinwild.com ENDS
