The 2011 Scottish Widows Peel Golf Club junior competition has been won by 13-year-old Ciara Halton.
More than 40 players entered the competition which has been sponsored since 1998 by CMI in the Isle of Man, now selling under the Scottish Widows brand, part of the Lloyds Banking Group.
The company sponsored all the prizes in the competition that saw Ciara win with a net score of 60 and receive the CMI silver trophy from Scottish Widows senior manager Juan Clarke and colleague Hazel Atherton.
Mr Clarke said the company was pleased to have sponsored the competition for the past 13 years and that the event was a good fit with its commitment to the Isle of Man community where Scottish Widows had sponsored the Parish Walk over 20 years and junior tag rugby for four. He went on to say that sponsorship of the latter had resulted in Scoill Ree Gorree winning the Spirit of Rugby trophy at this year’s RFU YAZOO National Tag 2 Twickenham rugby final and that Scottish Widows was the official pensions and investment provider to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
In closing Mr Clarke said: ‘I never cease to be amazed by the level of talent in Peel Golf Club’s junior section. These young players’ biggest asset is surely the support and encouragement they receive from the adult club members who instruct them in all aspects of the game, from technique to on-course etiquette.’ Mr Clarke also paid tribute to the junior members’ families for their support and to the club’s Emma Harris, Isle of Man ladies’ golf champion for four consecutive years who is now, he said, ‘flying the flag for the Isle of Man in the UK.’
