Join the open dance workshops this weekend!
Preparations are well under way in Douglas, Isle of Man for the Commonwealth Youth Games in September. The Opening will take place at the recently-refurbished Bowl on the 8th September, a stadium which will seat 3000 people including 1300 young athletes from across the Commonwealth.
Walk the Plank, the producers of the Opening of the Commonwealth Youth Games have been looking for young participants from the Isle of Man to perform at CYG2011. There is still a chance for children and teenagers to take part and perform in the Opening show by attending the open dance workshops in August. In a show welcoming the Commonwealth athletes to the Games, these young participants will be dancing either as part of a section called Dances of the World or in the Carnival procession around the stadium.
Local choreographer David Cowley will be leading a dance workshop for young people aged 14 and under, held this Saturday 6th August at 11-12pm at Carrefour Gym in Douglas. This workshop will feature elements of the choreography performed as part of the closing of the Manx Youth Games in May.
For those 15 and over, the Carnival dance workshops will be on the Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st August in the Secondary Sports Hall in the NSC with Jeanefer Jean-Charles.
Alongside the young dancers will be gymnasts, parkour performers and a Viking ship, all part of a spectacular show which will place Manx culture within the global community.
For more information on the workshops and to register your attendance, please email production@walktheplank.co.uk or call 0161 736 8964.
