The trailer of the CinemaNX/Isle of Man Film movie Albatross achieved the top spot on the Guardian newspaper’s website this week which will give the Autumn release of the film a tremendous boost. Following on from its successful premiere at the recent Edinburgh Film Festival, Albatross, which was shot entirely on the Island at the end of 2009, is gearing up for a UK release in October. The film is a contemporary comedy drama written by Tamzin Rafn and is directed by Niall MacCormick whose previous credits include the award-winning TV drama about the young Mrs Thatcher, “The Long Walk to Finchley”, with Andrea Riseborough and “Wallander” with Kenneth Branagh. Albatross stars “Downton Abbey” rising star Jessica Brown-Findlay in her first feature film alongside the more established Felicity Jones who was recently the female lead in Ricky Gervais’ “Cemetery Junction” and also starred in Stephen Frears’ “Cheri”. Also featuring is Sebastian Koch, the acclaimed star of the Oscar™ winning “The Lives of Others” and also “Black Book”, as well as Julia Ormond whose credits include “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”, “First Knight” and “Legends of the Fall”. The film is produced by Adrian Sturges who recently produced “The Disappearance of Alice Creed” for CinemaNX/Isle of Man Film and won the BIFA for Best Production Achievement for “The Escapist” starring Brian Cox and Joseph Fiennes. MacCormick and Rafn’s film is a coming-of-age family drama which tracks the friendship between two girls: the daughter of an ageing novelist, and an aspirant writer who comes to work in the family hotel in a small coastal town – enter the Isle of Man! ‘This film is a wonderful showcase for the Isle of Man.
