Family Fun Days at Douglas Station on 6-7 August

by isleofman.com 5th August 2011
Two Family Fun Days will be staged at Douglas steam railway station this weekend. The weekend aims to raise money for the Heritage Railways’ chosen charity this year, Wish Upon A Dream, that grants wishes for sick children on the Isle of Man. Isle of Man Railways will be offering free rides on open carriages, free rides on the Wicked Wickham people carrier and free rides on a vintage bus. Donations buckets will be available for people to give to the chosen charity. Additional attractions include a bouncy castle, disco dome and Gladiator Challenge along with face painting, colouring in tent and a magician. The Manx Play Bus will be present from 10am to 1pm both days while on Saturday the Manx Dance Troupe will perform from 2pm. The Family Fun Days replace the popular Thomas Weekend that has been staged for the past 10 years. Hon David Cretney MHK, Minister for Community, Culture and Leisure, commented: ‘An increase in licensing costs means an end to the Thomas themed weekends at Douglas steam railway station but we trust that the new Family Fun Days will prove equally popular with people of all ages and raise money for this worthy local children’s charity at the same time.’ Steam trains will be operating as normal between Douglas and Port Erin during the Family Fun Days.
