by isleofman.com 5th August 2011
IoM Friends of the Earth are pleased to host the visit of Mike Childs to the Island as he has 20years experience in FoE UK campaigning on a number of issues from river pollution, recycling and most notably heading The Big Ask campaign which successfully secured the UK Climate Change Act, making it law to reduce carbon emissions. Mike will be meeting the Ministers from DEFA & DoI to discuss a variety of subjects including the IoM’s current strategy regarding Climate Change, carbon reduction & energy saving measures and how the Island is making plans for its future energy security whilst fossil fuel prices (particularly gas) continue to rise. He will also be on Manx Radio Talking Heads at midday on Thursday 11th August explaining FoE UK’s work and taking questions from the listeners. Phil Corlett, Coordinator of IoM FoE said “It’s a great pleasure for us to have Mike here as he hasn’t visited the Island for 15yrs and when invited he didn’t hesitate as he’s keen to see our beautiful Island again and how we are planning for a sustainable future” The public are invited to a FREE talk & presentation by Mike at Keyll Darree lecture theatre (within walking distance of Nobles hospital) on Thursday 11th August, doors open from 6.30pm for tea/coffees & biscuits and the talk will start at 7.30pm with questions afterwards.
