The junior Squash season ended recently in the traditional manner with a Grading tournament at the NSC.
Grades 2-6 all had healthy entries whilst some recent grading graduates supplemented the numbers in Grade 1.
Grade 6 was a close, exciting Group which in the end was decided by the match between Amaline Batty and Rebecca Keeley. Amaline won 11-8 to win the group by 3 points from Rebecca. Laura Dickinson finished 3rd.
Group 5 was even closer with Katherine Picken and Mark Arrowsmith both winning 5 out of 6 matches. Katherine lost 11-8 to George Dickinson but beat Mark 11-6 to win the Group by 2 points. George lost to Mark 11-8 and to Clare Townsend 11-6 but won his other matches to finished 3rd just ahead of Clare.
Scott Jones was in inspired form and determined mood in Group 4 winning all his matches to top the Group. He was given a tough match by Elliot Henson though before winning 15-12. Elliot also lost to George Rumney 15-14 and Liam Townsend 15-11 but managed to accumulate enough points to finish second ahead of Calum Baker, George and Liam. 3rd, 4th and 5th being covered by just 3 points.
Similarly, a very focussed Edward Batty won all his matches in group 3. The very first match in this Group was between Edward and Macklin Wilson. After a topsy-turvy, nerve-racking contest Edward won 15-14. This match eventually decided the group as Macklin won all his other matches. Ben Peach finished 3rd.
In Group 2 the matches were the best of 3 games. Fresh from his GCSEs, Peter Naylor decided it was time to get promoted to Group 1. Peter played excellently and won all his matches 2-0. Sidney Batty gave Peter his closest match and finished 2nd.
Finally in Group 1 another player coming back from studying, Liam Dixon, was in fine form winning all his matches although he was pushed all the way by Hadyn McLarney and Patrick Fitzpatrick. Liam won both matches 21-20 and is now only 1 victory away from Graduating from the Grading school.
2011-12 Junior Development Officer , Carl Albrigt was on hand to present the Grading prizes and also the junior Player of the Year award to Chris Moore who has now joined the senior Squash ranks.
