HSBC Becomes First Winners of Heron and Brearley’s Age Concern Jail Break Shield

by isleofman.com 1st September 2011
A team of HSBC workers has become the first winners of the Heron and Brearley shield for coming first in Age Concern Isle of Man’s Jail Break fundraising challenge. Earlier in 2011 the hospitality and leisure company pledged support for the charity which held its annual ‘jailing and bailing-themed’ fundraiser and this year took a more ambitious direction, with teams breaking out en masse from the Isle of Man Prison, spending a night under canvas then making their way to police headquarters in Douglas minus money and mobile phones. The shield was presented to HSBC representative Voirrey Cheesman by Heron and Brearley’s ‘jailbreakers’ Shaun McEntee and Matt Lewis, and their colleague Ian Richardson, at Artisan in Victoria Street, Douglas. Age Concern Isle of Man’s chief executive George Quayle said: 'We’re very grateful to Heron and Brearley, not only for donating the shield but also for their support of our fundraising initiatives, which extends beyond our Jail Break challenge and includes our current “Alfa Adventure” initiative where for just ?5 a ticket you could win an Alfa Romeo MiTo. We’re also indebted to the police, the Isle of Man Prison authorities and the many local companies without whose co-operation and support we could not have raised the magnificent sum of more than ?8000. The Jail Break teams’ ingenuity and cunning in making their way back to Douglas are to be applauded and we look forward to witnessing more of the same in 2012.’ Heron and Brearley’s retail director Steven Taylor said: ‘We are pleased to support Age Concern Isle of Man’s commitment to improve older people’s quality of life as the charity’s values, in many respects, echoes those of Heron and Brearley in that it is receptive to its clients’ needs and works tirelessly to interpret those needs by delivering a whole range of innovative products and services. Our business is changing in line with consumer habits and now reflects our pre-eminent role as one of the Island’s largest private employers, so we are keen to play our part in supporting local causes and sporting endeavour. To this end we will not only be developing joint initiatives with Age Concern and, most likely, aligning the company with a number of other charities, but are also sponsoring the manngo.im Junior race and the Okells Brewery 500cc Classic and Formula Classic in this year’s Manx Grand Prix.’ ‘Alfa Adventure’ tickets are on sale at Age Concern’s Drinkwater Street headquarters and its shops in Ramsey and Port Erin, branches of Spar, (courtesy of Heron and Brearley), Extreme Art and Gadgets, the Manx Legion Club, Tracey Bell’s SuperClinic and Carrefour health club in Douglas, Celtic Gold in Peel. All funds raised from ticket sales will benefit the clients of Age Concern Isle of Man. Terms and conditions apply. Visit www.ageconcerniom.com. ENDS
